Getting Started

Getting your Ham license doesn't have to be complicated, or expensive. These links provide free, easy to understand, resources you can use to become a licensed amateur operator. It would also be a good idea to get in contact with one of your local ham clubs for additional resources and to get a better idea of what Amateur Radio is all about.

Hello Radio -- Details about how to become a Ham from the ARRL "Hello Radio" website

Free Practice Exams -- Free Amateur Radio Practice Exams from AA9PW - All License Classes

Morse Code Practice -- Although there is no longer a Morse Code requirement for any class license, many hams still enjoy operating CW. This is a Morse Code generator from AA9PW. This in addition to a good learning method will get you up to speed in no time. I highly recommend the "Code Quick" series, which allows you to learn the code by associating each series of symbols with a catchy phrase, greatly reducing the memorization involved.

Plano Amateur Radio Klub -- A great place to get involved with amateur radio if you're in the DFW area.
